What exactly is blood plasma – and how does your plasma become a life-saving medicine?

Blood is essentially made up of two main components:

  • The so-called formed elements, such as red and white blood cells, as well as platelets,
  • And blood plasma, which is a yellowish, transparent fluid

This blood plasma is composed of 90% water, while the remaining 10% consists of various fats, proteins, clotting factors, and hormones, which serve as essential raw materials for medicines, as they unfortunately cannot be produced synthetically.

Medications made from these components are needed, for example, by:

Patients with immune deficiencies

People suffering from hemophilia

Severe burn victims

Patients who have undergone transplantation
